A Faith that Brings a Miraculous Life
I, Atithep Ngamsilstian, am very fortunate to be able to chant Nam-Myoho-Renge-Kyo since childhood through a shakubuku of my grandmother, late Mrs Ku Por Ngek, who encouraged everyone in a family to practise Nichiren Shoshu Buddhism.
For thirty-eight years of practice, there have been various incidents due to a compassion of the Gohonzon, that has helped me to overcome difficulties and succeed in life.
Twenty-five years ago, 1990, it was about 11PM that I had an accident of being crashed by a motorcycle in front of our place. My condition was terrible and I had to spend all night long in an operation room. Fortunately, family members chanted abundant daimoku for me for whole night, never even let the butsudan closed. Finally, a miraculous thing occurred that night. In the morning, the doctor informed the family that I survived from death; however, I was in a serious condition and had to be under medical treatment in the ICU for a month and at least another three months in the hospital. Due to the compassion of the Buddha, my pains and condition got better rapidly that I only had to spend six days in the ICU and another twenty-one day in the hospital.
Many years after that, I faced another karmic retribution that I needed to be sent to the hospital since I was allergic to paracetamol, a dreadful one with serious swollen lip. According to the doctor, allergies is much more dangerous than accidents since it is all about matters inside our human body, which is extremely difficult to cure and caused many deaths. However, with the power of unwearied faith, my aunt, Siriporn Ngamsilstien, who kindly looked after me during the hospitalisation, told me to sit up and chant daimoku despite swollen lip that caused difficulty in speaking even a single word or drinking water. Eventually, only ten days later, I was able to leave the hospital.
Regarding educational success, thanks to Gohonzon’s compassion that makes me graduated from Faculty of Communication Arts, Chulalongkorn University, and gives an opportunity to be one of the delegates to present my own short film, at Festival De Cannes, France, without any accommodation or transportation fees, which were all paid by the faculty. It was a memorable and precious memory. Another great benefit bestowed by the Gohonzon was an opportunity to serve as an MC of Table Tennis World Cup hosted in Bangkok for two times; moreover, the matches were live broadcasted around the world, which brought pride to both myself and family.
The most important factor that strengthen my faith and practice correctly was a study of Nichiren Daishonin’s teaching. By studying the doctrine of true buddhism, I am able to understand everything much better, knowing the causes and significances of one’s own actions. Previously, studying lecture had never been in my mind much; thus, my mind was filled with arrogance, thinking that my thoughts were always correct, which led me to commit several hobo(slandering the true law).
Studying guidances from the high priest, Nichiren Shoshu priesthood, and senior members encourages me to devote myself in faith and practice correctly. The Twenty-second High Priest Nisshun Shonin stated the following: “The master is like a needle, and the followers and disciples are like the thread”. Both master and disciple need to be united in order to have a successful sewing; therefore, we have to devote our whole heart to out master by following his guidance.
Nowadays, I have to strive myself in a practice of an hour shodai daily since the more daimoku is chanted, the more faith and practice are strengthened. Moreover, we will be able to control our own thoughts and actions, be fear of creating negative karma.
All above everything, the most important mission is to pray for:
1. My opportunity and benefits to be able to practice only Nam-Myoho-Renge-Kyo throughout this life and every lives.
2. Strong faith and practices as well as Itai Doshin of Nichiren Shoshu practitioners around the world.
3. Courages, abilities, and opportunities to do shakubuku for the achievement of the mission of increasing Hokkeko members to 800,000 in 2021, which is bestowed to us by high priest Nichinyo Shonin.
4. An establishment of Nichiren Shoshu temple in Thailand with residential priest(s).
5. A chance to go Tozan every single year.
Lastly, I would like to ask everyone of you to chant daimoku as much as you can so that “the tremendous power of chanting daimoku” will protect us from misfortunes though a protection of Shoten Zenjin. The more we chant daimoku with our heart, the more we can face good fortunes and great benefits, being able to change one’s own karma and polish one’s mind to be come a new good person. Faith, practice and study are what we should achieved and fulfilled so that we will be able to attain buddhahood and the true happiness.
